The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) is calling on Australian dairy producers to benchmark their products at the 2023 Sydney Royal Cheese & Dairy Produce Show, with applications now open. One of Australia’s largest dairy competitions, the Sydney Royal Cheese & Dairy Produce Show provides producers with direct access to expert judges from across the dairy and general food industry and recognises quality products with a Sydney Royal medal awarded on a point-based judging system. ‘Shroomi’ burger sets the bar for Australia’s plant-based products at the 2022 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show

After a month of judging, across seven individual competitions, the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) has today announced the Champion medal products of its 2022 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show, with results reflecting a rise in the quality and market demand of plant-based and gluten-free products. In line with growing consumer trends, a plant-based section was added to the Specialty Foods competition in 2021. In just its second year, the category has claimed its first champion medal thanks to a standout performer in the ‘Shroomi Burger’, an invention by Alexandria’s ‘Made by Kade’. The mushroom-based, vegan and gluten-free burger was not only the highest scorer in the plant-based category but was also crowned ‘Champion Other Specialty Product’, a title which excludes only preserves, vinegars and coffee. NSW shines at the 2022 Sydney Royal Beer & Cider Awards

New South Wales breweries have cemented their place as the best in Australia, taking home 4 out of 5 Champion Trophies at today’s 2022 Sydney Royal Beer & Cider Awards. Sydney Brewery, based in Hunter Valley and Surry Hills, was awarded Champion Draught Beer and Best NSW Beer, supported by The Star Sydney, for their Sydney Brewery Speak Easy Black IPA. Read more

Australia’s most generous wine experience comes to Sydney

The biggest names in Australian wine will all be under one roof next month as the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW hosts its Grape, Grain & Graze Festival. After a 2-year hiatus, the festival returns to Sydney Showground on Saturday 06 August (2pm-6pm), offering ticket holders the chance to sample a large variety of wines, beers & ciders from around Australia, accompanied by delicious Sydney Royal medal-winning foods. Applications open for JB Fairfax Award for Rural & Regional Journalism and Communications

The search for the next generation of Australia’s rural journalists has begun with applications now open for the 2023 RAS Foundation JB Fairfax Award for Rural & Regional Journalism and Communications. The Award, now in its fourteenth year, is given to a communications student who has a passion and desire to report on issues affecting rural and regional communities. It includes a $10,000 scholarship as well as practical work experience at The Land newspaper, ABC Landline and in the Sydney Royal Easter Show media centre. Read more
