Narromine, in the Central West of NSW, has an economy centred on agriculture so it makes perfect sense that half the students at Narromine High School elect to study agriculture and involve themselves with the extra-curricular opportunities available including the very successful Narromine High School Show Team. One of the duties of Show Team members involves breaking in a steer to halter, essential for leading cattle in a showring. Halter breaking takes patience, persistence, hard work and confidence... it also helps if the steer is relaxed and not feeling fenced into a corner. A round yard helps, the steer is not blocked in and therefore less stressed and the student feels safer.

Narromine High School did not have adequate size or shape yards for this exercise and has even resorted to borrowing panels from local cattle producers for the Young Farmer Challenge they host during Narromine Agricultural Show. A Community Futures Grant from the RASF has enabled Narromine High School Show Team to purchase panels and erect their own round yard. Being portable, the panels can be used during the Young Farmer Challenge and for other exercises as they see appropriate.

Volunteers from amongst the students cleared the land and prepared a base for the yards, concrete was laid for new cattle wash bays and the panels and gates were erected.  The Show Team has since gone on to remarkable success at the Narromine Agricultural Show, taking out 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd in the 'led commercial steer' division and placings in the Parading age groups and Junior Judging.
